Final press conference and a seminar of FOR OUR FUTURE project

On December 14, 2016, 10:00 a.m. at Hotel Anel Sofia were held the final press conference and a seminar of the project "FORests and woodlands - ecOsystem services mapping and assessment in the bUlgaRian Forest territories oUTside natURa2000 nEtwork (FOR OUR FUTURE)".

Opening speech was made by Dr. Ing. Denitsa Pandeva, Director of "Projects and international activities" Directorate, EFA. Mrs Pandeva briefly presented the activities implemented under the FOR OUR FUTURE project. She emphasized the experience of the Executive Forest Agency gained during the implementation of projects financed by European funds and by other financial sources. Mrs Pandeva expressed her gratitude to the management team of the project for successful and professional implementation and achieved results.

Presentation made by Dr. Eng. L. Trichkov - project coordinator from the EFA and chief expert at the "Projects and international activities" Directorate – reviewed all implemented activities of the project and talked about the results accomplished during the project. Eng. Vasko Raychinov, coordinator of the project from the RFD Kardzhali, presented results of the mapping and assessment of ecosystem services outside Natura 2000 Network - activities implemented by the partner organizations - RFD Kardzhali and Norwegian Forestry Group.

At the end of the press conference the opportunity to ask questions was given to the invited journalists, representatives of the magazines "Agrokompas" and "Forest" and Radio Bulgaria.

The press conference was followed by a seminar. Eng. Georgy Tinchev, GIS Specialist, presented the results accomplished by the implementation of Activity 3.2: Mapping of the ecosystem services according approved by MOEW Methodology: establishment of a national layer "Forests outside Natura 2000 Network"; classification of the types of ecosystems (EUNIS levels 2 and 3) and assessment of ecosystems.

Presentation about development of algorithms and a system for evaluation was made by project experts Eng. Rossen Raychev, Eng. Kiril Tashev, Eng. Petko Iliev and land.arh. Ivan Bogdanov.

The seminar ended with discussions on the results, exchange of views and best practices, challenges and problems that occurred during the implementation of projects related to mapping and assessment of other ecosystems financed by Program BG03 “Biodiversity and Ecosystems”.

Key experts from EFA, responsible for the implementation of mapping and evaluation of forest ecosystems and ecosystem services activities, representatives of the team implementing "Methodological support for ecosystem service assessment and biophysical valuation" (MetEcoSMap) project, representatives of the team implementing project WEMA – humid ecosystems and those of FEMA: Freshwater Ecosystem services Mapping and Assessment in Bulgaria project participated in the final press conference and the seminar.
